Little Lambs and Shepherds – The Smallest Words Matter
One of my friends taught a sweet class of three-year-olds a few weeks ago. What she thought went wrong turned into a beautiful teaching moment for those babies to hear that Jesus is the Good Sheperd. As I listened to this story, I was reminded that all our sweet babies follow us, and they count on us to shepherd them and teach them the way to go, and that way should be to Jesus. Always to Jesus. So here is what happened.
They had been having a lesson about shepherds and sheep. Complete with a beautiful, unique shepherd’s staff. After they had finished a wonderful lesson and activites to go with it of course, they had review questions and when asked who The Good Shepherd was, they responded “you are!”. Well this made my friend feel like they had missed the point of the lesson, when in fact what they had done was heard it loud and clear – we lead them here on earth but Jesus is The Good Shepherd, which she explained to them. You see, we are the sheperds in their daily lives. Whether a Mom or a Dad or a Teacher, we are sheperding these little blessings that God trusted us with and how wonderful a lesson – we are their sheperds, but Jesus is The Good Shepherd. What an example we have to follow, right?!?!? We are not perfect like Jesus of course, that is what makes Him The Good Shepherd, but if we will follow His example, we will surely have teaching moments just like this one, where we can lead and shepherd and point our sweet children to Jesus. Point them to Him in all of life’s lessons. The Good Shepherd is the most important and teaching them that He knows the perfect path for us all is such an important conversation to have with them.
I love my sweet friend who shared this story – she loves Jesus so much and I am so thankful that she is teaching our babies the right way, the Jesus way, the only way that they should be taught.
If you do not have teachers like this in your kid’s lives, please find some to pour into them. What a blessing this sweet friend is to so many people. Thankful to God for my dear friend and her heart for Jesus and the children.
