soul searching – week 4 – limits
Sunday, 628
Hey yall! This past Sunday, 2/7/21, we discussed our last session of “Soul Searching” at 628. We have enjoyed working through how to have a healthy soul. If you missed any of the previous lessons, please go and check them out.
This week was about limits. Our souls are the one thing God did not give the rest of Creation, so our souls must be special, and He gave us limits for our soul.
Your soul cannot be healthy outside of God’s limits. Your LIFE cannot thrive outside of God’s plan!
No one likes to be told “no”. Look at Adam and Eve! They did not abide by the limits – ONE TREE THEY COULD NOT HAVE OUT OF ALLLLLL THE TREES! See what it got them???
Hearing “no” can really stink and not many of us like to be told no. It is so important that we understand limits and obey them. Know your limits. Know the limits God expects of us.
Look at King David. He had the chance to kill King Saul – several times – the very one who turned his life upside down and took so much away from him – look at David’s response:
1 Samuel 26:9-11
But David said to Abishai, “Do not destroy him, for who can put out his hand against the Lord’s anointed and be guiltless?” 10 And David said, d“As the Lord lives, the Lord will strike him, or his day will come to die, or he will go down into battle and perish. 11 the Lord forbid that I should put out my hand against the Lord’s anointed. But take now the spear that is at his head and the jar of water, and let us go.”
David knew that it was not right to kill Saul and that God would not be pleased with him. David had to say no to himself.
Saying no is necessary for a healthy soul.
Not saying no leads us to tons of problems! Read King David’s story about him and Bathsheba – you will see that when we do not say no, things do not turn out so well.
Romans 5:8-9
but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. 9 Since, therefore, we have now been justified by his blood, much more shall we be saved by him from the wrath of God.
God doesn’t save us because we follow His limitations. We follow God’s limitations because we’ve been saved!
Don’t resist the limits that God places on our souls. He gives us limits to protect us!!
We will inevitably fail at following God’s plan for our lives. We need to remind ourselves that Jesus died for us while we were sinners. God is on your side, even when you can’t obey Him. However, we must always repent to return to Him. That’s the only way our souls will find rest, healing, and fulfillment.
