Advent – Week 1, Day 3 – HOPE
“Waiting for Jesus”
Reference scriptures:
Genesis 12:1-2, 7
Genealogy. Family Tree. Lineage.
We all have a family tree, a lineage of where we descended from. The book of Matthew gives us the lineage of Jesus. The first name in Jesus’s genealogy is Abraham. God chose Abraham to begin the family to bring us Jesus. Abraham was a broken sinner, just like the rest of us and in fact, many would have thought he was not the best choice, but God knew he was the perfect choice for this special responsibility. Father Abraham, and yes, he did have many sons. Do you hear the song in your head when you read this? Ha, me too.
God promised Abraham and Sarah many, many, many children. God kept His promise, as He always does, and Jesus was the answer to God’s promise to Abraham. You see, Abraham and Sarah saw God’s promises but many would have to wait a long, long time to see His promises played out.
When we put our trust in Jesus, we become part of the family of Abraham too. We become one of God’s children. We have the hope of eternal life with God, that life God promised Abraham all those years ago. The promise not just to Abraham, but to all of us who choose to believe and become part of the family. One day, Jesus will return, and He will bring a “perfect land”, a place where all of us who choose to believe in God, to follow Jesus, will live with Him forever. Oh, such sweet, good news that is! Share it!!! Let everyone know they too can be part of the family!!!!
Merry Christmas!
