Advent – Week 1 – Day 5 – HOPE
Scripture – Genesis 28:10-17
Have you ever looked back at people in the Bible and wondered how in the world people who struggled to believe God or just would not obey God wound up being the very people God used to accomplish the things He did? It is true, even today. You see, sometimes we are tempted to believe that we are not good enough for God to use us to accomplish what He is doing. Relate? Of course, you can. Satan feeds us all the lie that we are not good enough, and sometimes we believe it!
Back to Jacob….. you see, Jacob was Isaac’s son and Abraham’s grandson. He stole his brother’s blessing, he lied to his daddy, he tricked his daddy by putting hair on his arms so that his daddy would think it was his brother!!! Then one night God came to Jacob in a dream and promised to fulfill the promise God had made to Abraham through Jacob. Jacob had 12 sons and eventually, that is the family line Jesus was born through. God sent our perfect Saviour that had never sinned to us through Jacob’s family. Jesus came to bring us back to God.
Discussion Questions:
1 – Have you ever lied to someone or tricked someone to get what you wanted? Kinda like Jacob did his Dad? Have you? Be honest!!! how did it make you feel afterward? Was it worth it?
2 – God used Jacob – even though he made many mistakes. How do you think God can use you? Think about it, pray about it, ask God, then discuss it with your family.
Love you all!
Merry Christmas!!!
