Advent Week 1 “Hope” and More Narnia Reading Story-time
CHAPEL TIME WITH MISS KIM – 11.28.21
Today we started our study through Advent – we covered Days 1 and 2 since we did not meet yesterday.
What is Advent? Do you know the meaning? Have you ever had to wait for something for a long, long long, long time? Was it amazing once you finally got it?
Advent comes from the Latin words meaning “coming or arrival”.
We point our focus on Jesus for Advent – His first coming and His awaited return.
This week, the lighting of the candle focuses us on HOPE – We can have HOPE because of Jesus.
Our memory verse this week to go along with our Hope Advent lessons is Romans 5:5.
“This hope will not disappoint us, because God’s love has been poured out in our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us.”
Romans 5:5
Scripture references for today:
Psalm 27:14, Galatians 4:4-5, Matthew 1:1
Family Discussion Questions:
- If you have ever had to wait a long time for something, what was it?
- What was it like when you finally got it?
- Are you excited to celebrate Jesus being born?
- How do you feel about Him coming again? Are you excited for that also?
Our Advent ornament reminders for today:
1 – Jesus is our hope and our anchor
2 – God had a plan from the very beginning – right from The Garden
I hope you enjoy the video and have some good family discussions as we prepare for the celebration of Jesus’ birth and as we await His return!!!
Story-time – Narnia
Narnia Story-Time – “In The Witch’s House” – “The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe”
Those who live according to the sinful nature have their minds set on what that nature desires. ~ Romans 8:5
Parallels: (from “A Family Guide to Narnia – Biblical Truths in CS Lewis’s The Chronicles of Narnia by Christian Ditchfield)
- Edmunds reaction was fear and horror. Reference 8:7, 1 John 1:5, John 3:20
- Edmund knows deep down not to trust the White Witch but he does anyway because he cannot resist the thought of Turkish Delight. 2 Peter 2:19, Proverbs 28:14, Romans 2:5
- Chief of secret police refers to Edmund as fortunate but not so fortunate – “There is no safety or security in those who make deals with the devil” – John 8:44, Matthew 4:8-9, 1 Peter 5:8
These will lead to some wonderful family discussions!!!!
Love you all!
