Chapel and Advent – Week 2 – Day 4 – “Peace” – Ruth – Storytime in Narnia – “Peter’s first battle”
Check out our Chapel and Advent video for today. I love reading about Ruth and learning more and more about that story every time I study the passages! Enjoy!
Make sure and check out the Advent tab on the blog for notes and discussion about today’s reading.
In our storytime today, we see Peter spend some time with Aslan as Aslan prepares him for his first battle. Here are some points from our “A Family Guide to Narnia” by Cristin Ditchfield. I highly recommend you get a copy of this book for your family for more discussions about the parallel between the Bible and CS Lewis’ writings in Narnia. The relation is just amazing.
~ We see all the animals gathered around Aslan. I picture that and it points us to the people surrounding Jesus as He entered different places. Here are some passages to look up to relate to this chapter and those gathered around Aslan. Isaiah 11:10, Psalm 68:24-25, Psalm 145:2, Isaiah 6:1-3, Ezekiel 1:4-14, Revelation 4:6-8 – I encourage you to look these up and study them. The connections will be eye opening!!
~We see Aslan referred to as “good and terrible at the same time”. Many years ago, the word terrible was used to describe “frightening” or “awe-inspiring”. The Bible tells us that when people encountered God, nearly every time, they had “fear or reverence”. Modern-day translations refer to this as “awesome”. I agree, Aslan is pretty awesome, but not nearly as Awesome as Jesus!!! Deuteronomy 7:21, Hebrews 12:21, Psalm 99:3.
~Aslan calls the servants to minister to the girls – Matthew 4:11 we see God’s angels minister to Jesus after his time of temptation in the wilderness.
~Peter’s first test – preparing him for the position of High King. God prepares us the same way for serving Him in His Kingdom. Psalm 18:34-38.
“Did You Know?” – from Ditchfield’s book”
The Stone Table – CS Lewis wrote to a young girl, “it was meant to remind readers of the stone table (or tablet) that God game to Moses. Do you remember what the tablet had written on it?
(Hint: Exodus 24:12, Deuteronomy 10:4, and Exodus 20:1-17))
If you enjoy reading about Battles and Courage in the Bible, check out these passages:
Josuha 1:9, Psalm 27:1-3, Isaiah 12:2
