Soul Searching: Ownership
January 24th, 2021
Last night at 628 we studied through week 2 – Ownership
Let remind you that your soul is something that God gave us that none of the rest of Creation received. We got the special gift of a soul. So, how do we protect it? What do we do to keep it strong and healthy?
Here are my notes from the lesson:
We are far more likely to give things right in front of us more time than things that are not in front of us or that are tucked away. Like “Out of sight, out of mind” or “sweet it under the rug”. If things are not right in front of us, they don’t get as much attention.
Owning our soul means making decisions that are healthy and bring healing. A healthy soul requires intentional work.
Let’s think about the latest iPhone. You get the new phone. You get a new case, a screen protector, you take the best care of it – in fact probably better care than anything you own at the time. You intentionally do things to protect it and keep it “healthy.” Do you put that much effort into keeping your soul healthy? Does your ownership of your soul look as high in priority as your new iPhone or new car or new shoes? You get the picture.
Therefore, preparing your minds for action, and being sober-minded, set your hope fully on the grace that will be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ. As obedient children, do not be conformed to the passions of your former ignorance, but as he who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, since it is written, “You shall be holy, for I am holy.” 1 Peter 1:13-16
What does the word “holy” mean?
Part of the work of owning your soul comes with the concept of holiness. Peter used the word “holy” several times in these scriptures. What does holiness mean? It does not mean being perfect. You can be imperfect yet still seen as holy in God’s eyes. It is through the death of Jesus and His resurrection that we can have a relationship with God. God gives us all we need, we just need to respond!!!
We talked about in our group things we would do after being asked to a special event, like a prom or dance. Once asked, what do you do? Do you just wait until the event and show up??? NO!! You have to plan clothes, dinner, hair, nails (ladies), transportation. There is much to be done; we have to respond.
Jesus is inviting you today to follow Him. How will you respond??
Will you respond to Jesus today? What will you do to own your soul today? Do you trust that God has given you all that you need?
I would love to help you be able to answer these questions. Please comment below or message me if you want to talk about owning your soul. Your soul. God gave you a soul – something that none of the rest of Creation received.
Soul ~ Must be pretty special. Let’s grow together and keep our souls healthy!!! Own it!!
Hope to see you next week at 628! Remember we meet on Sunday mornings at 9am, Sunday evenings at 6, and Wednesdays at 6. See you in The Attic!!
