Soul Searching – Unity

Our souls need unity.

What stood out to you from this movie clip about unity??

Let’s think about the Garden of Eden. God created all the animals and the garden and everything was perfect. No sin yet, so things could not have been any better. Except……..

God knew that Adam needed someone.  God knew that Adam needed a helper.  So he created Eve.  Eve, Adam’s wife.  Formed from his rib.  United as one.  Unity.

From the very beginning, God said humans need community, unity.

We keep our souls healthy when we have healthy relationships.

Think about King David.  I encourage you to read about his relationships with King Saul, Jonathan, and Nathan.

King Saul wanted to kill him, Jonathan tried to protect him, and Nathan cared enough to say hard things.

Real friends care enough to call us out when we need it.  Real friends love us enough to say hard things. Real friends encourage us and help us get back on the right track.

Real friends also have our back.  Although we need them to call us out, we also need them to have our backs and to encourage us to grow spiritually, even through rough seasons.

Here are some questions to think about from our lesson:

• When we say the word unity, what comes to mind?
• When have you experienced unity with other people? What was that like?
• Have you ever had a friend point out your failures to you? What was that like?
• Read Galatians 6:1–2. What advice does Paul give about being more unified? How can you practically share another person’s burdens?
• Read Hebrews 10:24–25 out loud. What would it look like for you to spur someone else on toward love and good deeds?
• How can you be a better friend this week?
